HEALTH PROGRAM

A brief overview of the health situation in Yemen:

Millions of people need health assistance in Yemen where supplies and medical care are scarce. The conflict has devastated the health care system, health facilities are not functioning due to staff shortages, lack of supplies, inability to meet operational costs, or limited access. YDN health interventions to improve access to primary, secondary, and tertiary health care, ensure that health facilities in priority districts can respond to epidemics, and help restore the functionality of the closed or damaged health facilities.

YDN Health program interventions:

Since 2015, YDN has effectively conducted several interventions in health programs within 9 governorates for more than 450,000 beneficiaries.

YDN effectively utilized its outstanding record of experience and resources to respond to the devesting humanitarian crisis caused by war and conflict.  The responses are designed to improve the access of affected and vulnerable people to health life-saving services through implementing scores of humanitarians by providing projects in the most affected areas across Yemen.

These interventions included provision of free medical services including primary and secondary health care services, reproductive health services, paediatric services and vaccines, education and awareness services through supporting health facilities and medical mobile teams with medicines, supplies, furniture, medical equipment, rehabilitation services, operational costs and supporting the health staff with incentives and capacity building in addition to response to COVID-19 pandemic through train the health workers on infection prevention and control (IPC) and case definition, providing personal preventive equipment (PPE), and risk communication and community engagement RCCE through train volunteers from the community in COVID-19 prevention and control and educating the community. The health facilities were supported based on the national guidelines, cluster updated guidelines, and MSP standards.

YDN health program includes a team of experts with different specialties, who are supervising and implementing the health interventions and are developing particular updated guidelines for the health interventions in Yemen.

In regard to access, YDN has coordinated with the ministry of health and the governorates health office to conduct an assessment to choose the targeted health facilities and assess the actual needs. This coordination ensured the accessibility of YDN and was done to facilitate the approval of the project in the sub-agreement phase.
